Title New KIPO Commissioner Appointed

President Park Geun-hye has appointed Republic of Korea’s ambassador to Kenya, Choi Donggyou, as KIPO’s new commissioner, effective May 12, 2015.


In 1988, Mr. Choi began his public service career at the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). Mr. Choi later joined the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy before moving on to become Director General of the FTA Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was heavily involved in trade negotiations. As a result, Mr. Choi compiled an extensive background in international trade throughout his career.


Mr. Choi is known both for his drive and his excellence in organizational management. Having overseen numerous trade negotiations and FTAs, he is highly regarded as an outstanding negotiator and an expert on international affairs.


At KIPO, Mr. Choi worked in key departments, including the Planning and Budget Division, the Industrial Design Division, and the International Cooperation Division.


Mr. Choi was born in the Daegu metropolitan city in 1959. He graduated from Kyunggi High School in Seoul and received a B.A. in law and a M.A. in public administration from Seoul National University. He earned a LL.M. from the University of Miami School of Law.
